Dada

June 21, 2010

Since day one, the majority of comments pertaining to who James looks like have swung in favor of J.D. Being a blonde boy probably helps. I suppose you’re less likely to tell someone they look exactly like someone else of the opposite gender and coloring. Fair enough. But, until I took this photo, I have failed to see it. Maybe it’s because James’ personality is less the quiet little angel playing legos in the corner and more the explosively emotional bossy-pants in his gene pool.

Speaking of which, one of J.D.’s true gifts as a father is his ability to tolerate James’ mama’s boy complex with grace and humor. “This is because,” J.D. told me this morning, “One day James will be old enough to appreciate things exploding inside a microwave and then he’ll be all mine.” When that time comes, you can have him. Outside.

Here’s another great photo of James and J.D., originally posted April 2009.

James is a wonderful reflection of both you and JD, Claire – in both appearance and personality. Sometimes we see you; other times JD – funny how that works. Yes, his being a boy and blonde draws the obvious comparisons to his Dad. It will be interesting to see what this next little one will be like!

    I love the picture.
