The Two Week Report

December 10, 2010

Jasper was two weeks on Wednesday.  So far he’s been lovely. When he cries it’s usually for a solvable reason, and if you can’t figure it out, you create a problem for him that you know how to solve. For example:

Jasper: wah wah wah

Me: booby? no? poopy? no? Well, that exhausts that.

Jasper: bird of prey sound clip

Me: How about we take your clothes off.

Jasper: angry angry goat sound clip

Me: Now let’s put your clothes back on

Jasper: Thank you! That was exactly the problem. Wasn’t it?

The second baby is so much easier. Mostly because you don’t take the crying personally. When James cried as a newborn I felt like he was filing official reports detailing my failures as a mother.  When Jasper cries, I think about how much better we’re all going to sleep because of it. If I really feel like I want a solid four hours, I give him a bath right before bed. Works every time.

We really really love this kid.

James has been doing a lot better these days, but this is partially because we figured out that he’s got some fluid in his ears that’s essentially causing a slight hearing impairment. If you talk to him like he’s 93, he’s much more compliant and polite.

Then yesterday morning he woke up with this:

A full on shiner. We weren’t sure if he punched himself during the night or if it was his hair that ganged up on his face. Just in case, I chopped it all off.

Thank you, Lightening McQueen, for providing the distractions that kept this from ending in a trip to Emerg to reattach his ear.

P.S. We really really love this kid too.

Jasper is looking quite a bit like James in that first photo and what a gorgeous photo of the both of you.
Congratulations on a haircut accomplished. I guess you won’t have to introduce him to Di:Fi for awhile now. Too bad. He would have made his Uncle Joel proud.
