Vancouver embraced us yesterday with slight rain showers and temperatures about 30 degrees warmer than whence we came.  To illustrate:

This is Annette, a lovely flight nurse from Vancouver who was living with us (and will continue to live in our house while we’re gone)

She walks everywhere, no matter what the temperature. She does it for the exercise and also for the frostbite.

Anyway, our departure was less stressful than we thought it would be but still stressful enough to have arguments about who was behaving more poorly due to stress.

But still, I managed to snap a couple of photos of our mostly renovated home in a state of complete order. Order that we will likely never see again and that was only achieved 10 minutes before we left (10 minutes after we should have left).

First, a couple of before shots to remind you, and us, of the many many man hours and Canadian Tire dollars spent.

After ripping out and reframing the wall between the kitchen and living room:

After scraping the paint off every square inch of wall:

This is a shot from the living room, looking into the kitchen. The island there is J.D.’s baby. If you ever come over, be sure to exclaim over its beauty and craftsmanship. You’ll make his year.

And the livingroom:

So far, plans for our first day off include a trip to the library. We’re trying to set James’ vacation standards low.

I really like the color scheme you picked. And props to J.D. for the island– it looks great!

Beautiful living room and kitchen. You both did a wonderful job and I can’t even imagine how you found the time!
