Doctor Sicko

January 11, 2011

James has lost his appetite. He is clearly dying.

His face is constantly veiled in snot and at the end of the day his sleeves are boards of  petrified mucus.

We’ve been trying to teach him to blow his own nose. Progress has been slow, if not backward. He’ll hold the kleenex an inch from his nose, blow, remove the kleenex (which is still as fresh as when it left the box), and wipe the snot away with his sleeve.

Today he said to me: “Mum, make me don’t cough. And make Jasper don’t cry.”  Two very tall orders.

He got a doctor’s kit for Christmas, complete with doctor spectacles. It’s in Vancouver right now but I’m sure if it were with us, he’d be using the plastic scalpel to remove his face for a few days while this cold clears up. Poor guy.

*Playing doctor on Christmas Morning. That brown smear under his lip is from the chocolate Santa Claus he ate before breakfast. He’s about to prescribe a smartie for my various ailments. But he says it will only work if he eats it.

Hope the rest of you are avoiding the cold bug – hard to do sometimes when little ones become mucus factories!

I’m sure by now JD must be feeling like he’s on an actual “holiday”, not just a school break!

Just seeing the title of this entry and looking at the picture makes me laugh.
