Everyone Needs an Annette

September 28, 2011

Annette went back to Vancouver last week but not before improving the lives of everyone in our household.

Annette’s passion is laundry. She said those exact words to me. “My passion is laundry”. She especially loves hanging laundry out on the line and then bringing it in and folding each article of clothing into impressively crisp 90 degree angles. So, it was quite timely when Annette happened to arrive days after our dryer died.

Side story: This is the scene of a dryer fire, people. I don’t know why it took over a year for this to happen. The heating coil got torched and is replaceable at a reasonable cost plus one million dollars shipping. Fortunately we are very good at sourcing out used dryers for cheaper than one million and twenty seven dollars. We put an ad in the paper and got a call from a man who said he had a working dryer (ten years junior to our original model from the sixties)  and a not-so-working washing machine and we could have the dryer for free if we also took the washer. We already have a dirty 1986 Chevy campervan parked at a tilt in the backyard. The broken washing machine is right at home.

Okay, back to why Annette is the shizzle. Besides the laundry (she made me feel bad if I did a load without telling her) she also cleaned, did our recycling, made us dinner, babysat Jasper, and DROVE AN AMBULANCE TO OUR HOUSE.

She took James for a spin around the block and when they got back, he cried. Hard. An ambulance ride, when you’re not bleeding profusely or having chest pains, always ends much too soon.

We miss you Annette!

Glad it was just a joy ride in the ambulance, not a “for real” one!
