Twinkle Twinkle

October 1, 2011

Two years ago this month, we lost our twins, Pi and Phi. Shortly after the miscarriage, I wrote a song for them and for all those little babies that didn’t make it as far into this world as we mamas and dadas hoped they would. Our musically talented friends Phil and Sara have a make-shift recording studio in their house and last year Phil helped me record the song. Then our other musically talented friend Dorothy added some violin to the whole mix. Phil and Sara just had baby Jonah (congrats!) and Dorothy is working on her second at the moment (yay!) so the version I have is not polished and will likely remain so.

But such is life: unpolished.

We buried Pi and Phi in the hills behind our neighborhood here in Whitehorse. They have a spectacular view over some hidden lakes and beyond but it had been awhile since we had visited their little grave. So a few weeks ago we set out to find their house in the hills.

Now here’s a really amazing and beautiful thing: Also a few weeks ago, my brother Brian and his wife Sun Young  announced that they are pregnant with their third and fourth! When Brian told me, I probably blew out a speaker in his phone: I am a very satisfying person to tell things.  Apparently on the same day that two babies were found on the ultrasound, two year-old-Olivia dialed 911 and the cops showed up at their house. “Hi Officer! I’d like you to arrest my parents for demoting me. Two times over.”

Sun Young at 15 weeks pregnant with the twins, whom Jude (three, almost four) has already named Oofer and Onkgel.

Just what I needed – a good weep. Blessed are you, Pi and Phi. No doubt you have found my twin and are hanging out together playing, laughing and praying for us all. Pray that our eyes will be opened to all that’s beyond us.
