Sunday Dinner: Birds in a Nest

November 22, 2011

Sunday is, in theory, a family day for us but since the dawn of Sunday Dinner, it has become another day in which we both perform damage control in separate arenas – J.D. trading the classroom for the kitchen. I guess it’s a little better, in that I have someone I can wave to while the children whine and claw at me in the living room.

So, we have revised the goals and purposes of Sunday Dinner.

Sunday Dinner must now be at least two of the following:

1.Something that James will eat without complaint (boiled hot dogs)

2. Something that many adults would not eat without complaint (boiled hot dogs)

3. Something that takes less than half an hour to cook and can be cooked by any family member including Jasper (boiled hot dogs)

4. Something that we found on a Pinterest Board (hot dogs pierced by spaghetti and boiled)

This week we made Birds in a Nest which actually satisfied all four criteria. (Moose ball birds with cheerio eyes and tortilla chip beaks in a nest of plain spaghetti perched on a celery branch. J.D. added some pesto “bird droppings” to his nest.)

C’mon Tramp, why you gotta hate?
