The Starry Night

October 26, 2012

James made his own version of The Starry Night by Van Gogh by doing finger-paint prints. I told him a little bit about Van Gogh and mentioned that he lived a long time ago and is dead now.

James: How did he die?

Claire: (how to be truthful without explaining suicide to a four year old?) He, um. It was complicated mumble mumble.

James: But how did he die?

Claire: Well, no one liked his art and mumble mumble.

James: But how did he die?

Claire: Hey, did you know that he cut off part of his ear once because he was mad at his friend?

James: Woah.

Claire: Yeah, don’t do that.

This morning James drew this picture of J.D. making a one handed close range shot at a moose with a rifle. Maybe he is ready to talk about these things.

P.S. If you Google “How did Vincent Van Gogh die?”, there will be a very efficient answer waiting for you.

That painting is amazing!! Don’t lose that one. That deserves a frame, not just a refrigerator.
