Halloween

November 1, 2012

We were a little behind on the Halloween preparatory activities and crafts. It all happened yesterday in a whirlwind of pumpkin guts and glucose-fructose.

James’ conscience battles with the spirit of pumpkin goodness,

and the spirit of pumpkin badness.

Jasper is more decisive. Get behind me Satan!

As per custom, James dressed as his current science obsession: The solar system.

The sun is his bike helmet covered in papier mache, paint and gold glitter. J.D. was an enthusiastic supporter of the project until he found glitter in his stubble. Next year James will be going as a pillow case with two eye holes.

Jasper went as a martian (and by martian, I mean he wore a red toque that could possibly pass as an alien head) but only because the rabbit costume I found for him at the Salvation Army lasted a total of nanoseconds before being angrily ripped from his person.  He eventually took to screaming whenever he even thought I was going to suggest putting it on.

James (the solar system), Elijah (Shrek), and Oscar (the Jawa. 50 bonus points if you know what a Jawa is. 10,000 bonus points if you know more about Star Wars than Oscar)

James and Jasper practice their ghoul/zombie/(cheerleader?) routine.

I took them trick or treating in -16 C with flurries which was all fine until James lost Uranus and then had to pee so bad that we melted some snow on the lawn of someone who had all their lights turned off.  Jasper decided that it would be good to walk back home in slow motion and also stop EVERY TIME A DOG BARKED. Dogs feel a great sense of purpose on Halloween, I have discovered.

But their spoils were apparently well worth the trouble.

Love the glucosed-up glow and James’ struggle between the dark side and light side of the pumpkin force. You could have a young Darth Vader on your hands.

Wonderful set of photos. Those guys of yours are worth a children’s book although I get a sense of the struggle between the force and the dark side with James. Jasper just is.

maybe that’s the problem. James’ knowledge of Star Wars comes second hand through Oscar which would make the force and the dark side extra confusing.

Happy belated Halloween! The solar system is even better than the digestive system. Can’t believe an entire year has passed so quickly.

No kidding! A year is not a lot of time to mentally prepare for the next round.

As the wife of an Old Dutch employee I applaud your boys for stuffing their cute faces with chips. Seriously, I just want to smoosh that little one’s cheeks. How’s things up north?

Things up North are snowy but super! And believe me, his cheeks are very conducive to smooshing.
